"Falls Short of the Promise" 2010-09-08
By Vincent L. Carrella (SF, CA)
For 350 bucks I want a tank I can throw off a cliff, a workhorse that I can rely on, a fine piece of machinery. This ain't it. While I do love the juicer, and I use if every single day, it has some design flaws that are pretty inexcusable in my book.

First, the strainer basket is made from weak plastic that will crack no matter how small you dice stuff. You better cut lemons and beets into small pieces or this thing will crack. I've cracked 3 of them so far so this is a fundamental flaw in material. To their credit Omega is fast and easy to deal with but come on people, I paid too much for this to happen.

Second, this is not an easy juicer to clean. It can take 10 full minutes of work to get it spic and span and you have to use a special brush to get all the particles out of the fine mesh strainer.

Third, the discharge shoot ALWAYS clogs and sometimes requires prodding with the tool. I find that I have to adapt to this machine's flaws rather than it working with *me*.

I love my juicer, but if I could trade it in for another I would. I am hooked on juicing now, but will have to wait until this thing dies before I can afford to plop down another 350 for a replacement. Fail town.

"The price was too steep for me but I'm a believer now, thanks to wife!" 2010-09-06

Qualifications as reviewer: I've only ever owned this and a Jack Lalanne Power Juicer, unless you count a blender and/or food processor. Thus my comparisons are to the Jack Lalane.

We owned a Jack LaLanne JLPJB Power Juicer Juicing Machine for years and used it maybe two dozen times. We got it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $40 on clearance and thought it would be a nice way to make our own juice blends, and it was. But it was a bulky machine that took up a lot of counter and storage space. And it couldn't do many items like grapes, berries, leafy greens like wheat grass or spinach.

Recently we got very interested in doing quite a bit more juicing and began looking at these masticating juicers. After the initial sticker shock, the lovely missus convinced me this thing may potentially save us bigger medical bills down the line.

Concerns:
I was skeptical not only because of price, but because we'd rarely used the Jack Lalanne! What if we aren't juicers? Plus we really couldn't tell the size of the Vert compared to the counter space we had for it.

Well, ladies and gents, my concerns were laid to rest when this machine arrived. Not only was it half the size of the Jack Lalanne, but the break down and clean up were easier too. Also, we easily get 33% more juice out of this juicer than the Lalanne. We do get more pulp with this machine (even with the more restrictive filter) than we did with the LaLanne but that's easily fixed with a pour through the collander if the need arises.

In short, I'm glad we got it. It turns out we are juicers and I love creating our own blends.

been about a month (1-2 times a day) and still going strong... would have given it 5 stars if it didn't issues juicing some leafy green like lettuce, but am overall satisfied with the purchase. frozen bananas through this juicer is awesome, just make sure to thaw them them out first.

"Excellent Juicer!" 2010-08-30
By NB
This is a terrific juicer. I have been juicing for over twenty years with Omegas model 1000 and it is still running great. But the 1000 is a centrifugal juicer and does not eject the pulp. I got weary of cleaning all the pulp out of the large strainer basket. Also, if I wanted to juice a large amount of produce, the strainer basket needed to be emptied in order to continue on. I wanted something easier to clean and something I did not have to empty mid-stream. The Omega VRT330 solves those problems and more. It is well built, has a small footprint, and is very easy to clean... and the juice tastes better! Much fuller and sweeter tasting. In the past when juicing carrots, sometimes they were a little bland and not very sweet. With the VRT330, I have not had a bad batch of carrots and I have been juicing with it for a month (use it every day, and most days, morning and night) - that's a lot of carrots. There is hardly any frothing, virtually no pulp in the juice, and the ejected pulp comes out very dry (soft fruits come out a bit wet, but this is the norm for most juicers). I have juiced carrots, parsnips, celery, oranges, grapefruit, mint, parsley, grapes, beets (with green tops), apples, mangos, lemons, etc. I like the fact that you can reinsert the ejected pulp and have it squeeze out the last little bit of juice. Also like that it has a reverse switch for the occasional time when a hard vegetable gets stuck - just hit reverse for a couple of seconds, then forward, and you're good to go. And the produce just glides in, no forceful pushing is required - it's basically an automatic feed.

Juicing suggestions: sometimes when juicing stringy fruits or vegetables, they tend to clog the hole in the strainer basket. This prevents any remaining produce from being pressed completely if they are inserted after the stringy items. So, if you are juicing a lot of different kinds of fruits and veggies including the stringy ones, insert the stringy ones at the end of the process. Also, if juicing hard veggies along with soft veggies or fruit, I usually add the soft items in between the hard ones (carrots, grapes, apples, then a carrot or two) to help push things through, and then I reinsert the pulp to help squeeze out more juice as the soft fruits come out a bit wet the first time through. Of course this is not necessary, but I like to get the maximum amount of juice.

Cleaning suggestions: when I cleaned the strainer basket for the first time, I used the little brush that came with the unit. After a couple of weeks of doing that, I realized that clean up time became much shorter if I rubbed the basket vigorously with a sponge FIRST, and then used the brush to brush out any remaining pulp. Of course, all the other parts of the juicer just rinse clean with hot water.

Assembly reminder: there is a little plug attached to the bottom of the plastic container that needs to be unplugged when cleaning, and reinserted for juicing (it remains attached to the bottom of the housing, so you can't lose it, but it does need to be reinserted for juicing). I have forgotten to reinsert that thing numerous times, consequently, some of the pulp oozes out of the bottom of the container - not a lot of pulp, just a bit. You probably won't know you forgot to plug it back in until you remove the container from the base and find some pulp there. Of course, if you decide to run some water through the juicer to clean it out for a different kind of juice, the water will run out the bottom, so.... remember to put the plug back in when reassembling!

One thing I would love to see is an all stainless steel base (obviously for aesthetics only)
I highly recommend this juicer. It is a pleasure to use.

"Great juicer" 2010-07-24
By E.W. (PA US)
So I bought this juicer from walmart back in June 2007 for only $45. I used it daily since. Love this juicer. I got it for my own health, but ended up getting my kid hooked as well :)

Well, today it stopped working. The motor broke, and the rubber started smoking right in the middle of carrot/lettuce/beet juice :(

I was disappointed to see the price go up so much, because I really wanted the same one. But 3 years of daily use, I'd say thats pretty good for an inexpensive juicer.

Would recommend this to anyone.

"Leaky juicer" 2010-07-09
By 1949dwn
Not completely happy with this product since it leaks terrible where the pulp container atch to back of machine. It could use a gasket there. It is of poor design in that area. No doubt, that is why they recommend using a plastic bag to help catch the pulp but also rolled over the top edge, serves as a make shift gasket.

"Awesome HB Juicer" 2010-05-26
By MO teach (Northern, CA USA)
Got this juicer early this mo. after hearing that it was given a very good review by Consumer Reports. I've used it 4-5 times and am quite happy with it. It's easy to assemble, operate, clean and the price was much more reasonable than other juicers I looked at. It makes great juice and my family is hooked. We have experimented with different fruits and veggies to see what produces the best juce and what produces little juice. My favorite features are the extra wide mouth opening to insert your fruits and veggies,(they dont have to be cut into small pieces) and the ease of cleaning. I am saving money no longer buying the famous brand fruit with veggie juice now on the mkt, we are making our own and it tastes much fresher. There was a simple recipe guide included which appears to have some good recipes, but we have just had fun trying things on our own. I would highly recommend this juicer to other families.

I researched for quite some time finally purchased this juicer...couldn't be happier! It's exactly what I wanted; easy to use, easy to clean and very easy to store...if you want to store it! It's actually a nice looking machine and the only thing I would personally change? I'd prefer it be stainless steel so I could leave it on my counter! Awesome purchase....

This juicer is absolutely The Best -- extremely well-made and intuitively designed, of solid production, very simple to use, and very, very easy to clean up. Highly recommended!

"Worked great...for about a month" 2010-09-03
By SistaBNYC (New York, NY)
Well, all the negative reviews turned out to be true. I bought my Healthmaster from Macys for a sale price. I only used it for making veggie juice (no soup or ice cream). It did what they said it would do and I loved the healthy juice it made. Finally a way to eat my vegetables that I hated so much. The motor still runs but the bottom has rusted and drips brown gunk all over my counter when I lift it off the base. Sure I can send the rusty carafe back and they'll replace it for $40 bucks. I can't keep doing that every month. What a piece of crap. This product should be taken off the market. I learned my lesson and will bite the bullet and get the Vitamix that I should have bought in the first place.

"Terrible quality" 2010-08-25
By M. hunt (South Shakopee, Minnesota United States)
I bought this about a year ago, and after a couple of uses it started to leak some rusty fluid every time I use it. It is so noisy, everybody runs outside the room when I use it. DO NOT BUY!

"Black gunk and broken in pieces" 2010-08-21
By Janelle
I wrote this letter to Healthmaster. I hope it is helpful to you concerning your purchase:

I purchased this blender in December of 2009 from Fingerhut. It began spewing some kind of substance (like thick black oil) out from the bottom of the pitcher. At the time it began I just wiped it clean, but now I am certain it was coming up into the food I was blending and eating. Then the motor also began making noises. I made some soup one day and the whole pitcher and blade came apart at the base and green soup was splattered all across my apartment.

Fingerhut refuses to help me. They told me to call you. I did, and you want $80.00 for shipping to send me a new base and pitcher. The cost to ship the entire unit when purchased new is $29.99.

I have since done some research, and many people have had the same experience with the base and pitcher spewing black and/or dark substances into their food. Just look at the website for QVC and others. You really need to find a solution.

There are also many complaints about the staff that you have. When you call and talk to them, they are not helpful at all. One of your people told me that the $80.00 charge was actually a favor because I could be charged for a whole new unit. Perhaps some basic definitions of what a warranty is and how it works could make a useful wall poster in your little work areas there. I won't even mention basic customer service skills, that might be an overload.

Clever marketing idea: Claim there is a 100% warranty on the unit and the when people call for help with the unit broken in pieces, tell the the warranty is $29.00 if you didn't purchase it directly. That should be a reall money maker for you considering the volume of people who have purchased this and watched it fall to peices. I sure hope you find a way to help me in the future when all that black gunk I injested begins manifesting a health hazard for me and countless others.

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS!!!!" 2010-08-21

All these reviews are true. Unfortunatley, I didnt read them till just now. I bought mine from amazon in March. By June, the base connecting the blender container to the motor had rusted and emitted a burning smell. It was comepletly burnt out! I used it to make the recepies Montel featured in the books that come with it. THAT IS ALL I DID WITH THIS THING!!! Stay away! this is a big ripoff! I am gonna get a Vitamix

"Best thing about it is the price" 2010-08-13
By UnhappyJuicer
The port is too small, in order to juice an apple you have to slice it into tiny slivers. The blades are not effective, and most of anything you put through ends up as pulpy mass not as juice. A poor design results in too many channels, nooks and crannies for pulp to get caught in, and it is hard to clean. The time and effort to chop things small enough to fit through the port, to feed them a pinch at a time into the machine, the waste of your fruit and veggies as pulp, and time it takes to clean does not balance out the cheap price.

"Not for serious juicers" 2008-02-01
By James L. Mariner (Colorado Springs, CO, USA)
This HB juicer was a replacement for an older one that was recalled. While I do not have some of the leaking problems described in other reviews, I find that this model is not nearly as useful as it might be. The pulp IS still very wet, and therefore you don't get all of the juice extracted. Moreover, much of the pulp remains packed around the cutter basket rather than being spun out into the pulp receptacle. This makes clean-up necessary more often than other juicers, and makes it difficult to grab the cutter basket when removing it for cleaning. Clearly, this low-powered, low-end juicer was made for occasional juicing of fruits, and not so much for a serious juicer who would be inclined to use it more often and with tougher vegetables.

"It's...OK" 2006-09-14
By D. Austin (Evansville, IN United States)
First, let me say- if you're looking to become a juicer- don't get this model. If you're just looking for an occasional glass of juice- then go for it! I got mine on sale for $20. It's great for those pieces of fruit that are a little too ripe to eat raw. Insead of throwing away an apple with a little browning- throw it into the juicer. I too have gotten some leakage from the pulp bin- but it hasn't been horrible. I keep a paper towel handy. You don't get much juice either- but still for the price- I'd rather go cheap than buy the $100 model and rarely use it. The hardest part to clean is the metal strainer- I needed a toothbrush to even make a dent in the built up pulp. So all-in-all, is it worth pulling it out once or twice a month- sure! Everyday- forget it! You just don't get enough juice to bother with it all the time.

"Good and easy to clean" 2010-04-17
By Ronit (MA, USA)
It is a good juicer and it is easy to clean.

4 and not 5 stars beacuse it is a bit noisy and it sparys the juice around when it pours the squeezed juice into the container that holds it. However, I would recommend this product to a friend. It is a good deal for the money.

"Very Disappointed" 2010-03-21
By Y. Rayani (Bothell, WA)
I read all the positive reviews and bought this juicer.....What a mistake. I have been juicing for years every morning and this one stopped working after 4 weeks, after 20 juicing sessions of 2 glasses each. It started jamming after the first week, then started jumping around on the counter, and eventually stopped working.

I rate this product 5 stars!!

"Disappointed" 2010-03-13
By Garlando The Magnificent (Orlando, FL)
Highly disappointed with the operation of this unit. It was extremely loud, it jammed with carrots, and chattered & jumped around occasionally. I have had other juicers without these issues. I am returning it and will try something else. The juice it made was good, but the negatives outweighed that. Cleanup was a bit more difficult than typical of this type of juicer; lots of crevices and the straps on each side got dirty and were difficult to clean. plus the exterior of the machine had debris all around --- from juice and pulp.

As a follow-up 8 days after the above remarks --- Amazon made return and refund of this juicer extremely hassle-free and quick. I am very pleased and impressed --- kudos to Amazon!!!!

Also, I purchased a Breville 800JEXL juicer from Amazon since I returned this Kuvings and it is a FANTASTIC juicer in every way (read my review on that one). It costs A LOT more, but REALLY worth it in my opinion.

"Great little juicer" 2010-05-19
By Ali S (San Francisco, CA USA)
Fantastic compact juicer - gets the job down. About the only complaint I have (aside from the sore wrist after juicing 10+ oranges! but that comes with any manual juicer) is that the juicer part needs to be cleaned out after every 3-5 oranges, but that's likely the case for any of these, I'd imagine.

"Awesome Citus Reamer!" 2010-05-09
By Jen
I used to squeeze lemons by hands - not anymore! I just received this cute little juicer two days ago and fell in love instantly! It is small so it won't take up a lot of cabinet space, but most importantly - it does a great job! I now realize how much juice I wasted by hand-squeezing in the past! This little tool got all the pulp out of the lemon and the double strainer caught all of the seeds! It was the perfect tool that I needed to assist with my homemade lemon sorbet. Get one - you will NOT be disappointed!

"chef'n juicester citrus/reamer, citrus" 2010-02-15
By Barbara J. Jorgenson (Glenwood, MN United States)
Gift for my son. He liked the size. It was small so you could just make a cup and not waste a bunch of juice you might not use with a larger one.

He would have rather it was a glass bottom instead of the plastic. I was disappointed that it was plastic.

"works perfect" 2010-02-10
By Vesela Morova
For the price, it is really worth buying it - I use it everyday - you do have to use quite a bit of force to squeeze everything out of the fruit, but that wakes me up in the morning. easy to wash too

"What a machine!" 2010-08-26
By Y. Mozgovoy (Brooklyn, NY)
I don't understand how this machine works - it's just a few very simple parts, but so powerful!!!

Very good at juicing almost everything - greens, vegetables, fruit - although, it does run into a little trouble with soft items (like peaches or papaya). They tend to get clogged in it. If juicing soft items, I recommend making a mixed juice with something hard in it as well (i.e. carrots). While juicing, interchange feeding pieces of the hard items with the soft items, as the hard items will help eliminate the clog caused by the soft items. The reverse rotation button also helps greatly in eliminating the clog.

People getting the juicer for health reasons will probably be mostly juicing greens, root vegetables, and some apples. And adding some softer fruit for extra flavor. So the clogging is a non-issue for me, and won't be for you, if you are getting this juicer for the same reason.

Cleaning is very easy - most of the parts can be simply rinsed off, and 2 - the auger and the meshed piece - just need to be cleaned with a brush for a few seconds.

I've had it for over a year and I still think it's the most trustworthy appliance I own! And one of the best investments as well.

"Nicely made, high performance unit." 2010-07-24
By Jeffrey Brown (Westlake, OH USA)
I've owned a Champion juicer, a Breville centrifugal juicer, and now this Omega J8006. This is by far the most enjoyable to use, and appears quite well made. It's not quite the industrial quality of the Champion, but close. If you are looking for a low-speed masticating juicer, this is the one you want. It's very quiet, and wrings every last bit of juice out of everything you feed it. I've re-processed pulp from the Omega and gotten at most an extra few percent of the juice from the first run. Very efficient extraction. The only disadvantage I can see is the need to cut things pretty small. The high-speed Champion digests large, whole carrots with ease, but if you want the healthier processing of low speed, you don't want the Champion. Plan on cutting your hard veggie (carrot, etc.) pieces about 1/2" thick, and apples-type fruit about 3/4". I've only used the Omega a few times and I don't know how much of an issue that will be over the long run, but I suspect it's not going to be a big deal.

"Very satisfied" 2010-07-20

I love this juicer. This is the first juicer I have ever bought. I wanted one that will juice wheatgrass and after reading several reviews, I decided to get this one. I love it!!! It is easy to use and very easy to clean. I would recommend it to anyone.

"We love this juicer" 2010-07-11
By Mad City Jess
We did a lot of research before purchasing a juicer and I'm so glad. We absolutely love this juicer. It juices everything from wheatgrass to apples to citrus fruits. It is easy to use, about as attractive as a juicer can be, and is very easy to clean. We highly recommend this for anybody looking for a high quality, versatile juicer. It's worth the cost.

"Losing an old friend" 2010-08-15
By Java
I logged onto Amazon, my eyes still red from my loss. The tragic passing of my vintage glass citrus reamer still fresh in my mind. I could still hear that sound in my head... a crack followed by the tinkling of hundreds of glass shards landing on the floor. For sixty years various citrus met their fate at the unforgiving tip of that glass implement, but those times finally came to their inevitable end.

Through tear smeared eyes I browsed amazon to find something to fill the void. The OXO Good Grips Citrus Juicer caught my attention as it was both "Good" and perhaps would help me come to "Grips" with my loss. The good price overcame any fears and in no time it was at my door.

My heart was heavy yet ripe with anticipation as I halved a lemon for the test. I chose the smaller of the two reamer sides and started the familiar press and twist. Amazingly the well designed reamer tore through the lemon and in no time I was left holding an empty shell - scraped clean of all its lemony goodness. Seeds and rinds remained on the top and tart juice filled the measuring cup below. As much as I missed the nostalgia and whimsy of my old glass friend, the performance and design of my new partner was exciting! I threw the OXO on the ground to see if I would be betrayed, but it simply bounced and came to a rest with a durable clunk comforting my mind. Since then dozens of lemons, limes, and oranges have met their end. The sadness is gone and my kitchen more efficient than ever thanks to another well designed product from OXO.

"Handy for small quantities of juice" 2010-03-30
By Sylvia MANIA (San Francisco, CA)
I am pleased with this product as with most products from Oxo. I gave it 4 stars because it tends to clog quickly, and needs to be emptied and cleaned after each single piece of fruit.

"OXO Juicer" 2010-02-08
By Sylvia M. Schlieper (North Dakota, USA)
I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it! She says she gets much more juice out of her oranges and lemons than by squeezing by hand.

Received it quickly and it works great. I have never bought an Oxo product that didn't perform as advertised.

"Better Than Expected" 2009-06-26
By M. Apsey (TAMPA, FL USA)
I got mine just today, and after juicing a lime for my beer and seeing how well this thing worked and how easy it was, I'm more convinced that OXO has it's corporate act together. This thing is a breeze to use, and easy to clean once you discover the little "notch" that aligns the reamer (which flips over to change sizes).

I've plenty of seedless limes @ 6/$1.00, but think next time the veggie man visits my apartment complex, I'll load-up on oranges and lemons too! This device opens a whole new convenient and efficient citrus-juicing, easy-clean-up world for me. Thank you for one more functional and well-designed kitchen gadget OXO!

"Best juice I have ever had!" 2010-08-10
By Reality Check (Los Angeles, CA USA)
Decided to start juicing and LOVE it. Saw that this model was recommended by Martha Stewart, so I went for it. Though it is fairly large, it fits on my counter perfectly. Fairly easy to clean, definitely use a bag for the pulp. Doesn't move around on the counter.

"POWERFUL, EASY TO USE, EASY TO CLEAN," 2010-07-19
By Tiffany Vanderhider (Spring TX)
years ago i had a juiceman (the $200 model). It was good. But this one is even better. Less waste out the back. sturdy. looks nice on the countertop. easy clean. very powerful (850 watts i think) compared to most around this price range. Good buy!

"Best juicer of all time!" 2010-07-12
By Bama Baby
This is the second juicer I have ordered. The Breville really gets the job done with minimal cleanup compared to other juicers. I raved so much about mine, I had to order one for my cousin.

"Great juicer for the price" 2010-07-07
By D. J. Fleischman (Los Angeles,Ca)
I am very happy with this juicer. It ejects the pulp out the back into a large container that I put a plastic bag in so clean-up is very easy. The machine is very quiet and very little vibration. The large inlet chute means I don't have to cut the fruit or veggies into smaller pieces like my previous juicer. Clean-up time is less than 3 minutes ( i don't have a dishwasher). I have used this machine mostly with carrots, apples and ginger and it produces a good quantity and quality juice. Only downside so far ( have had it for 2 months) is it is tall and takes up a lot of counter space
